Case Study: From First-Time Singers to a Finished Track – Our Complete Utattemita Production Workflow

The Project: A Cover Song with Heart
We were contacted by a group of three singers working on a cover song for a special event. They had a camera operator ready to shoot the music video – but when it came to audio production, they were starting from scratch. This was their first time recording in a studio, and they weren’t sure what the process involved.
That’s where we stepped in.
Step 1: Guiding the Process with Care
From the get-go, our goal was simple: make sure the singers felt relaxed, supported, and excited to express themselves. We guided them step-by-step through the entire production process, explaining each stage clearly – from arranging parts, to recording, vocal editing, mixing, and mastering.
This isn't just about pressing record – it's about creating an environment where people feel comfortable and inspired to perform at their best.
Step 2: Recording – Capturing Emotion Over Perfection
Recording is where the magic starts. In addition to our acoustically treated recording booth, the setup features a Telefunken tube condenser mic through a Manley all-tube signal chain – preamp, compressor, and EQ – straight into a Universal Audio interface. This vocal chain delivers a warm, rich tone that beautifully complements expressive vocals in the song.
But the real focus is making the singers feel at home. We served drinks, gave them a walkthrough of the setup, and encouraged them to just have fun with it. We emphasized that emotion, feeling, and energy matter more than perfect pitch and timing – because we can always fine-tune the technical stuff later. What we can’t fake is soul.
During the session, the room was full of energy – the singers were dancing and fully immersed in their performance. That’s what we live for.

Step 3: Editing – Tightening Up While Keeping It Natural
After the session, we compiled and arranged the best parts of each performance and performed a basic cleanup – removing clicks, pops, and lip noises. From there, we moved on to timing and pitch correction.
Even in modern soul-pop genres, where authenticity is key, a little editing goes a long way. Our goal was to keep everything sounding natural while making sure the vocals were tight and in tune, especially important in group singing.
The result is a smoother, more polished performance.
Step 4: Mixing – Bringing It All Together
Mixing is where your song starts to shine. For this track, we aimed to match the vibe of the original version, while letting each singer’s unique tone and energy stand out.
Using both analog hardware and digital tools, we applied:
EQ and compression for clarity and control
Saturation for warmth and character
Reverb, delay, and chorus for depth and ambiance
Volume automation to highlight dynamics and storytelling
We blend the best of both analog and digital worlds to create a 3D sound that’s rich, balanced, and emotionally resonant.

Step 5: Mastering – The Final Polish
Finally, we mastered the track to make sure it would translate well across all playback systems – from phone speakers to high-end headphones. This means adjusting dynamics, frequency balance, and loudness levels to meet commercial standards.
The end result? A clean, powerful, radio-ready version of their cover that they were proud to share.
